Good research into similar texts. Good research into audience, but would have been improved by using some graphs. Reasonably good graphs.
15/20
Construction
Proficient use of software to construct pages. Good manipulation of images and text. Good evidence of construction. The front cover is a well chosen photograph. The contents page has too much white space and is a little too basic.

Evaluation
I attracted my audience by taking into consideration the answers given for the questionaire and therefore worked out what would be the most effective articles to put in the magazine and the most effective presentation.
I have learnt a lot about apple computers which i never knew before because i do not own one and have rarely been on one. I also learnt a lot about the application's used on these computers like photoshop where you can manipulate images to your specifications and indesign where you can create attractive text pages.
My media product represents private schools in a very good light, because it shows all the academic, sport, CCF and other achievements that it has gained. It also shows that the school has great relationships with students and parents and portrays it own community.
Lastly my media product challenges forms and conventions of other magazines that seem to be obsessed with filling their cover's with text and pictures, but i have shown that a simple front cover can still be as effective and eye-catching. It also uses the same forms and conventions as these magazines because it still uses a big bold masthead and the top of the page and a slogan/motto at the bottom of the page.
Production - Contents Page
The first thing i did was to open up indesign and then put the heading 'Contents' in a text box at the top of the page. I then organised all the way down the page equal text box's that would soon contain page numbers and the names of the different sections within the magazine.
I also colour-coded each of the house sections to make it easier for the reader to distinguish each house and the colour that represents this particular house.
I then added a diverse range of pictures that sum up everything that the college does as a school. I did this by creating picture box's and then putting the picture i wanted into them, then adjusting the size of the picture to fit into the frame, then moving the picture to where i wanted on the page.
I then made sure that all of the pictures where an equal size and then moved all of the text box's and pictures into their appropriate positions.
Production - Front Cover
I started off by taking a picture of my student in medium-close-up in the area that i wanted him to be.
I then opened the same picture onto photoshop so that i would be able to put text and other pictures onto it and i would do this by using different layers.
I then took a picture of the school crest which is located on our school gates at the entrance to the school. Once again i opened the picture onto photoshop, this is so i can manipulate the image and take out the background and then just have the crest which i would then put on the other picture with the student on. I used the tool called 'Magnetic Lasso', which means that i can outline the school crest perfectly and get rid of the background surrounding it. I then moved the school crest onto the picture of the student, made a new layer for it, re-sized it and then placed it in the bottom right-hand corner.
The next step was adding the all important text to the front cover. I did this by adding text box's in the appropriate areas, on new layers and then selecting the font style, colour and size.

Questionnaire Results
I asked 100 people around school on a normal day, and i will show the percentages for each question
1. Student = 80%, Teacher = 15%, Parent = 5%
2. Sport = 60%, CCF = 20%, Academic = 20%
3. Yellow = 80%, Black = 10%, White = 10%
4. The most common answer was that they should have their own sections, but all the same space to make it fair.
5. The most common answer was that they should, because it gives a different perspective of school life and gives students the chance to practise jounalism skills.
6. Yes = 80%, No = 10%, Ocassionally = 10%
7. Most people were satisfied with old issues of The Victorain annual magazine
8. Most people said that the magazine does very well to encorporate all the happenings of a whole year into one issue, but could put more trips/tours that the school does in it.
9. Top = 80%, Middle = 15%, Bottom = 5%
10. 1 = 60%, 2 = 20%, 3 = 20%
This will now help me to understand what the reader wants and doesn't want, it will also help me to attract my audience and make sure they keep on reading The Victorian because of this.

This is Austin College magazine which seems like it is mainly targeted at the students parents. The main picture on this cover shows the foreground of the college and the main building itself. It represents itself as a very pleasant college with water fountains and flowers, which goes against the conventions of schools that are plain and boring, the caption at the bottom also helps to put this message across. The text on the cover is mostly bright to catch the readers eye, it is also in a very formal font to seem very grand. The only disadvantage of this magazine is that it does not show its students, which might present the school in a negative way to the parents by seeming very detached from the students.
This is Gallery magazine which is targeted mainly at the younger generation of the public that have interests in fashion, nightlife, sports etc. The main picture draws the reader in due to it being a very close up image and due to the model having gold foil on her face. The cover also gives the reader a small insight into what the magazine will feature. This is very useful for advertising reasons because it means that readers will not have to open the magazine to the contents page for the main articles. The masthead at the top of the cover is black on a white background which means that it stands out well and doesn't interfere with the picture below.
This is Surfer magazine and is targeted at people who surf or take an interest in surfing. We can see that the main subject of this particular issue is Kelly Slater and his legacy. The colours used implies that his legacy has been around for a while, due to the fact that there are only two main colours used which gives it an old feeling. The gold shading over the cover also implies that he has and is at the top of his game. His name doesn't need to be very big which is because he is easily one of the most well known surfers of this generation, there is evidence of this because the word 'his' is even bigger than his name.
